February 05, 2026, Rock Point, AZ — The Rock Point Elementary girls basketball team завершed an outstanding season by claiming the league championship with a 39–23 victory over Many Farms Community School. The title win followed a dominant semifinal performance in which Rock Point defeated Black Mesa 41–12.

While the victories were impressive, Head Coach Stevana Emerson emphasized that the season’s true success went far beyond the final scores. With several new players on the roster, one of the biggest early challenges was helping athletes understand the game, execute plays consistently, and build trust as a team.

At the heart of Coach Emerson’s approach is a belief that coaching is about nurturing growth both on and off the court. Her philosophy centers on creating an environment where dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship are foundational, and where every player is encouraged to recognize and develop their own potential. Effort and continuous improvement are emphasized just as much as wins, with players learning to view challenges as opportunities and setbacks as moments for growth.

Coach Emerson shared that one of her proudest moments was watching the team evolve from a group of individuals into a cohesive unit. “Seeing them go from not knowing each other’s names to playing like a real unit was amazing,” she said. She also praised the team’s sportsmanship and the strong bond built through shared effort, learning, and perseverance.

Rock Point Elementary’s girls basketball championship stands as a testament not only to athletic achievement, but to the power of thoughtful coaching, teamwork, and character development — lessons these young athletes will carry with them well beyond the season.

Congratulations Elementary Lady Cougars!
